Responsibilities: The Marketing Manager is expected to be proactive in creating and implementing outside-the-box business development and marketing strategies to assist in generating new client relationships, expanding current client relationships, and enhancing Avalara recognition as the leading provider of Sales and Use Tax Exemption Certificates Software as a Service and other Vendor/Seller documents needed to conduct business. The Marketing Manager will work closely with General Manager and Program Manager to establish priorities and programs that will increase visibility and lead generation for all Avalara products.

• Develop and implement high-level partnering relationships with industry associations and consultants. Work in conjunction with practice members, marketing communications and public relations professionals to generate content, create and implement practice/industry-specific marketing materials, and identify and leverage public and media relations opportunities.
• Advancing innovative, digital campaign and brand principles that drive sales growth and identify, qualify and develop new business leads and prospects.
• Develop a system for tracking and maintaining action on leads across various business development activities, oversee and monitor follow-up efforts.
• Deliver timely marketing and event plans that include success metrics and reports for defined marketing initiatives.
• Ensure a close loop lead management process with all marketing initiatives, working closely with sales on lead conversion through nurture strategies and ROI reporting.
• Attend and/or participate in relevant seminars and events to develop relationships in order to meet with clients and future prospects.
• Effectively use marketing technology tools to increase prospect identification and internal information sharing.
• Understand and demonstrate experience using social media platforms and developing tactics and content that support a defined marketing program and/or campaign.

Requirements:

1. Ecommerce / web presence experience is a must.
2. 4 year college degree required
3. 7+ years of marketing and business development experience in a professional service industry, with preference given to sales and use tax experience
4. Marketing communication experience and a knowledge of interactive technologies
5. Ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners
6. Highly motivated self-starter who is able to handle a variety of projects that require tight deadlines.
7. Proficient at issue-spotting, and possess a strong intellectual curiosity about Sales and Use Tax and business transactions in general.
8. Highly organized and possess strong creative abilities and excellent writing skills, as well as the ability to think strategically and analytically.
