Position: Contract Technical Writer

Where: Seattle

What: This three month contract assignment will focus on developing information content for customers of Satori Software products. As work progresses and the scope is more clearly identified, an additional three month extension is a possibility.

Responsibilities:

  • Update existing end-user product documentation to ensure currency, accuracy, and consistency of content. Revise content as needed to support recurring product updates.
  • Author topic-based content for new products and new product features for both desktop (GUI) and developer (API) products.
  • Manage newly developed content through creation, approval, and publication.
  • Work with team members to migrate legacy document content to a single-source environment.
  • Work with team members to increase online availability of documentation.
  • Author targeted knowledge-base articles to support customers regarding industry changes, software updates, task tutorials, and troubleshooting.

Requirements:

  • 5 or more years’ experience authoring technical documentation for software user assistance.
  • Ability to write clear, grammatically correct, topic-based content.
  • Strong understanding of the techniques and advantages of single-sourcing documentation using XML.
  • Proficiency with industry standard technical writing tools and with core elements of HTML and CSS.
  • Ability to independently follow established document designs and standards.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable and self-motivated work style.
  • Passion for quality and excellence.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to ramp up on new concepts and methods quickly.
  • Open-minded attitude to resolving problems and delivering the right results.
  • Ability to stay on target and on track under normal circumstances, and to expedite efforts when required.
  • Must be available to work full-time on-site.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience authoring content using MadCap Flare.
  • Experience in the Postal and/or Data Quality industries.
  • Experience producing diagrams and illustrations in support of technical content.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Technical Communications Suite.
  • Experience working on projects that use the Agile/Scrum development framework.
  • Experience developing and producing screencasts or eLearning content using Adobe Captivate or Camtasia.
  • A clear understanding of the core principles of User-Centered Design.
