What:  The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent research center at the University of Washington. Its mission is to monitor global health conditions and health systems, as well as to evaluate interventions, initiatives, and reforms. It uses cutting-edge approaches to tackle some of the most difficult and most critical questions in global health and find answers that will become the foundation for better policies and, ultimately, better health.
IHME has an outstanding opportunity for a Web Developer. The Web Developer will be responsible for the design, development and day-to-day maintenance of all web applications in use by the Institute and exposed to the general public. The Web Developer will report to the Assistant Director, IT.

Responsibilities:
• Update and develop new web features, services, pages, and sites for institute projects, the main external website, as well as the intranet.
• Provide routine maintenance and upgrades for institute websites.
• Produce efficient, secure, accessible, and standards-based web applications and pages.
• Test and debug new and existing web features, services, and pages across browsers, including some mobile.
• Participate in project planning and requirements; provide suggestions and feedback on web usability and general improvements.
• Design new websites page layouts and components..
• Monitor and respond to system problems or emergency situations that may occur during scheduled or non-scheduled work hours. Respond to inquiries and feedback related to the website and material contained therein.
• Stay up to date on the latest trends, issues, and advances in web technology; learn new technologies as required.
• Maintain thorough documentation of all programs and procedures.
• Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field or concentration, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years web development and programming, with a strong foundation using PHP, CSS, HTML, MySQL, and Javascript.
• Development experience with the Drupal CMS; ability to make template updates, build modules, and perform UI customizations.
• Strong foundation using a photo editing software such as Photoshop or Fireworks.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, including team ethic and relationship building.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; exceptional decision-making skills.
• Self-starter and demonstrated ability to learn/adapt new methods to support this role.
• Ability to deliver quality systems and work under constant deadline pressures.

Desired:
• Experience with Solr Search.
• Management and development experience with the Plone CMS.
• Programming abilities in D3, Java, Python, and Actionscript using Flash/Flex.
• Demonstrated track record of innovative solutions deploying and supporting IT initiatives.
• Interest in the promotion of global health.
• A deep understanding of security and systems best practices.
• Experience putting together usability and information architecture documents/proposals.
• Experience with SEO.
• Experience with data and map visualizations and/or different GIS software such as ESRI.
• Experience developing large-scale web-based surveys and surveys run from a client that sync to a central server.
• Experience with source control such as SVN, Mercuria, or GITl.
