What: Socrata is the recognized leader in the fast-growing Open Data market. We develop and operate cloud-based SaaS solutions that enable customers to transform their data into accessible resources that can be easily explored, shared and reused.
We are seeking a Customer Experience Developer. This position will be responsible for all of the design and technical aspects around bringing a customer onto our platform, and ultimately through launch.

Our customers include standard-setting federal, state and local government organizations such as Data.gov, World Bank, the UN, State of Oregon, Kenya, Seattle, NYC and Chicago. We are a venture-backed startup, based in Pioneer Square in Seattle.

Responsibilities:  You will work closely with the customer and our account manager to design and build a visual theme for the site, setting up custom site templates, and importing any data a customer has that is too complex for them to import themselves.

As this position covers a lot of ground and will be among the first contact a new customer has with our team, we are looking for someone who excels at communicating with customer stakeholders, and is not only comfortable with, but eager to grow into new roles on a daily basis. The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

– Demonstrated familiarity with HTML and CSS in a cross-browser compliant environment
– Familiarity with standard design tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
– Ability to work to customer design specifications, and to work creatively without them when necessary
– Detail-oriented about design
– Enthusiasm for and comfort with working with customers
– Experience working directly with clients
– Moderate proficiency in at least one programming language
– Experience with web development using a content management system a plus
– Willingness to learn and apply technical concepts at a medium level
– Strong work ethic and desire to contribute in a team environment
– Ability to wear many hats

A bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or in design is preferred.  This position is based in our office in Seattle, WA.
