Position: UI/UX Designer

Where: Tacoma, Seattle, Redmond, or Bend

What: The UI/UX Designer will be responsible for creating visual UI design artifacts including, conceptual/functional diagrams, wireframes, and interactive prototypes that satisfy the needs of both the business and the end user. Along with your SmartMine colleagues, you’ll work with internal and external clients to deliver requirements for customers and product owners. You’ll also be responsible for evangelizing and advocating for the user experience within the SmartMine team, working closely with end-users, subject matter experts, and developers to design an experience that incorporates the needs of multiple parties into a single seamless user interface.

On a typical day you might…

● Solve a complex interaction design problem around reporting large amounts of data.
● Write CSS code to refine a product design.
● Refine a persona based on customer feedback.
● Digest data from a usability study and think about how to translate it into concrete user interface design improvements.
● Talk to a customer to better understand their scenarios and workflow.
● Work with software engineers to develop a working prototype.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be successful as an UI/UX Designer, you’ll need to be creative and innovative when applying processes, while maintaining a positive approach and demeanor. You’ll have at least a year of has experience in all phases of web and mobile user-centered design, including the ability to make strategic and tactical UI design recommendations to customers and project teams based on business requirements, usability findings and standard UI design practices. The ideal UI/UX Designer also possesses the ability to rapidly prototype low and high fidelity UI concepts, serves as a usability advocate, and promotes a user-focused mindset across the SmartMine Team. Our ideal candidate is passionately user-centered, creative, and has solid user interface, usability and visual design skills. Additional qualifications include:

● A Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Information Architecture, Computer Science, Human Centered Design, UX Design, Human Factors or Human-Computer Interaction or related field. A Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with relevant experience and training will also be considered.
● Experience working in an agile product development environment
● Experience working with cross-functional teams including business development, product management, and engineering.
● Familiarity with user interface guidelines and best practices for major platforms (iOS, Android, web) and an understanding of the limitations and tradeoffs of using various development technologies and standards (XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, etc.).
● Thorough knowledge of interface design principles, usability theories, and rapid design
● Excellent active listening communication and presentation skills.
● Excellent time project management, time management, and prioritization skills.
● Ability to establish business relationships and work effectively with business and client contacts.
