What: The Seattle Times is seeking a Project Coordinator to coordinate the development and maintenance of online advertising products, services, and programs in support of the online revenue streams of The Seattle Times Company, balancing business goals with customer needs, technical feasibility and operational sustainability.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates product development projects ranging from small technical adjustments to implementing new products and services.
  • Identifies time and resource costs for development and maintenance of features and products.
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams to bring appropriate expertise in marketing, design, user experience, engineering, quality assurance, sales and operations to support and fulfill the business goals of the product.
  • Tracks the creation of project requirements, specifications, and project plans to ensure comprehensive documentation of product release functionality and interaction expectations, incorporating direction and documentation from other functional teams as appropriate.
  • Synchronizes actions of a cross-functional teams through the planning, specification, design, development, launch, and operational phases of projects. Facilitates decision-making during the product development process, balancing business goals with recommendations by and between functional experts in design, engineering, marketing, quality assurance, sales, and operations.
  • Must be able to accommodate multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Identifies risks before they impact projects and works with leads to develop potential courses of action to mitigate.
  • Acts as a liaison, as assigned, to third party vendors and affiliates.

Requirements: At least one year experience producing web-based products and services, preferably with a focus on online advertising. Understanding of the web development production life cycle preferred, including planning/research, writing product requirements/specifications, implementation and operational planning, launch, reporting/maintenance, and iterative enhancement. Experience working in cross-functional product development teams required. Advertising product development experience preferred. Experience managing third-party vendors and partners preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Needs Analysis: Ability to assess projects and determine appropriate levels of communication and tracking for successful completion of the project. Understanding of dependencies and relationships and ability to coordinate these in a timely fashion.
  • Interactive Project Management: Coordination of the development and review of documentation, functional specifications, operational flows, and project plans. Able to synchronize the efforts of cross-functional teams (design, engineering, QA, customer care, operations, marketing).
  • Technical Skills: Skilled in Word, Excel; experienced in Project; familiar with Visio. Able to coordinate communication between developers and designers. Sufficient knowledge of Web technologies and applications (PDF, CSS, Flash, video/audio formats, e-commerce processes, content management concepts) to facilitate clear communication. Sufficient knowledge of online advertising and performance technologies, including ad serving technology, traffic-monitoring, and related systems to facilitate clear communication within project teams.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in Web Project Management
  • Exceptional communication skills: verbal, written; Able to communicate at all levels of the company.

Preferred Education: BA or BS degree.
