January 14, 2015 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

wtiaTech in Focus – Machine Learning, WTIA,

When: Wednesday, January 14, 2015 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Where: Context Relevant, 1301 5th Avenue Suite 1300, Seattle

What: Machine Learning is everywhere. Since the 1960s, we’ve been hearing about the promise of Artificial Intelligence, as well as wrestling with the implications. Well, we’re not yet dealing with HAL or Terminator, and the Singularity still seems pretty far off, but the era of Machine Learning + Big Data is here for sure, with all of its promises and challenges. Computers can now recognize images with near-human accuracy, text and voice-recognition has made huge advancements  and started to become part of everyday life, and natural-language processing has given us significantly better language translation. Self-driving cars, drone planes, NSA spying – the list of profoundly important ways that Machine Learning impacts the human condition goes on. The breakthroughs in the past 2 decades have been incredible, and the promise is even bigger. How much of it is hype? How much of it is real? WTIA will try and orient you in this sea of promises, hysteria, and drama, as well as hopefully provide a spotlight on the aspects that we think represent a true intellectual revolution.
