Who Died and Made You Boss? AIGA Seattle presents James Victore

September 16, 2010 @ 6:30 am - 9:00 pm

James Victore will inspire you. Pulling no punches, he built his career on the strength of his convictions as much as his skill as a designer and has aimed for one thing in his work: “to make it personal.”
In his own words:

“James Victore Inc is an independent design studio hell-bent on world domination. We strive to make work that is sexy, strong and memorable.”
From a video interview by HillmanCurtis:

“Graphic Design is a big f****** club with spikes in it, and I want to wield it.”
From an interview on Speak Up:

“The fact that I don’t make any distinction between ‘beautiful’ and ‘ugly’ always keeps me pushing to get somewhere new and surprise myself…. Even after a client has been educated and is accepting good work, you have to keep pushing them further. We designers don’t go it alone. We need brave, groovy, sexy clients…”

In his new book—Victore or, Who Died and Made You Boss?—with an introduction by Michael Bierut (Abrams; September 2010; U.S.$40.00/CAN $50.00), Victore leads readers through his “greatest hits” and tells the stories behind his ideas, describes his process, and reflects on the lessons learned. Buy your copy from Peter Miller Bookseller at the lecture and have James sign it.
