One Day at Metis Bootcamp: Python & Data Modeling Training

Back by popular demand, on Saturday, February 3, Metis Seattle will be hosting “One Day at Bootcamp” to give you a chance to see what the experience is really like! You’ll receive free, interactive training in Python and data modeling from our Senior Data Scientist Chad Scherrer.
The curriculum is designed for people with limited or no exposure to Python and the data science stack for Python.
Schedule
– 10:00 – 10:30 – Setup and Orientation
– 10:30 – 12:00 – Python Basics
– 12:00 – 1:00 – One Hour Break
– 1:00 – 2:30 – Pandas + Scikit Learn
– 2:30 – 3:00 – Group Presentations
The first 1.5 hours will introduce the basics of Python, focusing on the portions of Python that we’ll need to get started building a model with data.
Midway, we’ll break for one hour. Lunch will not be provided, but there are plenty of great options in the Pioneer Square area.
After the break, we’ll introduce the dataset for the day and work together to load the data, clean the data, and prepare it with Pandas – a main feature of the Python Data Science toolkit.
Next, we’ll introduce Scikit Learn, a module for machine learning. At this point, we’ll split into groups and each group will build a model with the data we’ve already worked on
Finally, you will have the chance to present your results in a short presentation demonstrating the model and the data.
Requirements:
A laptop with Anaconda installed.
About the Metis Instructor
Chad comes to Metis from a diverse technical background. After earning his mathematics PhD from Indiana University, Chad joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory to work on statistical and computational challenges ranging from homeland security to high-performance computing and machine learning research. Following several of his publications at top-tier ML conferences, he turned to probabilistic programming, then still in its infancy. He has used these systems for consulting projects for industrial clients, and has led development and publication of several new ones along the way. In his spare time, Chad enjoys a wide range of music, and practices martial arts, where he has black belts in several styles.
