You will be a key contributor on a self-directed team, where thoughtful participation and effective communication will be required for your group’s success. Developers are expected to take an active role across the software development life cycle: providing input on product direction, shaping requirements and design, taking ownership of technical implementation, and ensuring the delivery of high quality products. Projects will be dynamic, requiring an aptitude for learning quickly and applying new skills in a production environment. You will find that the culture requires a love for your craft.
We are seeking a software developer to join our genome research and development team. The application will be a custom solution for managing, visualizing, and analyzing genetic data to support the research and development of non-GMO crops. Technical challenges include:

Map-like experience for visualizing genes down to the amino acid level
Algorithms for aligning homologous sequences of genetic data
Queries for searching annotated regions of genes and alignments
Architecture designed for efficient storage and retrieval of data
Performance optimizations for computationally intensive processes

Requirements: 

2+ years experience with a couple of object oriented, imperative and/or functional languages e.g.: Ruby, Python, Java, C/C++, C#
Excellent web development skills and strong knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript
Familiarity with development frameworks and libraries such as: Rails, Django, JQuery, D3 and willingness to learn new ones as needed
Solid competency with relational databases
Use of variety of tools and technologies to verify and benchmark your code
Strong computer science fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and programming languages
Experience in releasing software, collaboratively solving problems, and keeping the environment fun and productive
