What: The City of Seattle’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking qualified candidates for the part-time position of Seattle Channel Web Designer/Developer in the Digital Engagement Office. The Seattle Channel is an Emmy-Award winning municipal TV station and a leader in the field of government and community programming. The Seattle Channel reflects, informs and inspires the community it serves and aims to connect residents with their city through compelling public affairs, arts and community programming. Seattle Channel presents programs on cable television – channel 21 on Comcast (321 HD) and Wave (721 HD) – and via the Internet. This is a great opportunity for a talented web designer/developer to elevate Seattle Channel’s online presence. This position reports to the Seattle Channel Station Manager. The part-time position is structured as a job share, with the tasks and responsibilities shared by two employees. The position includes a benefits package and paid leave program. The Department of Information Technology provides technology leadership for the City enterprise, developing common standards, architectures, and business solutions to deliver City services more efficiently and effectively. DoIT is responsible for citywide technology governance, strategic planning and policy development, and programs that promote technology literacy and public access to government information. The department manages the City’s technology infrastructure which includes the City’s computing services, communications technologies (radio, telephone and data networks), enterprise-wide major projects, end user support, citywide website, cable office and municipal television station.

Responsibilities : 

This position reports to the Seattle Channel Manager and works in collaboration with the job-share Web Designer/Developer; responsible for:
Create, update and maintain multi-media content on the Seattle Channel website.
Create and format graphics for the website, blog, social media and email campaigns
Moderate and administer interactive tools such as blogs, social media sites and online polls.
Encode video for streaming; set up, monitor and troubleshoot live video streams.
Monitor, compile and analyze reports on web traffic, including social media platforms.
Support communications manager with marketing and outreach campaigns.
Perform duties commensurate with the ITP-C level.

Requirements: 

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered for required qualifications except where specifically noted.
AA/AS degree in related field or equivalent relevant experience.
2+ years’ experience with HTML, XML, CSS. JavaScript experience a plus.
Comfortable using and administering social media pages and accounts.
Fluent with Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office.
Familiarity of WordPress or other blogging tool.
Experience with Google Analytics or other web analytic tools.
Strong visual style. Strong oral and written skills, including writing for the web.
Understanding of user-centered design principles and web best practices.
Experience with project planning, self-directed and capable of successfully prioritizing and managing projects with minimal supervision.
Able to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
Organized, creative, efficient, flexible, and a team player.
Knowledge of streaming media technologies, video and audio codecs.
Understanding of Content Management Systems.
Aptitude for learning new tools and technologies quickly.
