Position: PHP Developer

Where: Seattle

What: DoubleDown is looking to hire a mid-to-senior level PHP rock star who would like to take an active role in writing backend applications and in-house tools for an active, highly successful, gaming company. The ideal candidate will be comfortable developing applications and services that leverage the CodeIgnitor Framework, will be able to work within an agile development process, and be comfortable writing code in a continuous integration environment.

  • Play a lead role in the design and development of mobile games leveraging HTML5 and other mobile languages
  • Work closely with game designers, producers, artists and developers to expand our product offering into the mobile arena
  • Act as the primary interface with internal/external mobile development teams from a technical, design and production perspective driving the delivery of leading mobile game experiences
  • Maintain code quality across multiple mobile game development environments


Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain PHP based in-house tools and backend systems
  • Identify suboptimal code and refactor accordingly
  • Provide unit tests and code-level documentation for all new tasks and refactors
  • Actively participate in the team’s scrum and development processes
  • Develop training materials and help documentation for systems that get created
  • Stay abreast of best practices by, researching new tools, enhancing and evolving new and existing tools


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4~6 years of experience and a strong passion for the LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, & PHP) development stack
  • Working knowledge of memory object caching technologies such as Memcached
  • Experience designing, querying, and updating both RDBMS and NoSQL data stores like MySQL, MongoDB, and Couchbase
  • Ability to design unit tests with PHPUnit and document source with phpDocumentor
  • Knowledge of web service development and consumption (SOAP, XML Feeds, ReST, etc)
  • Experience implementing a popular PHP based MVC framework for a high volume commerce or online gaming site (Zend Framework, CodeIgnitor, Magento, CakePHP, etc)
  • Familiarity with common PHP design patterns and their implementation
  • Ability to effectively use source control systems such as Subversion (SVN), and Mercurial
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate a proactive, can-do attitude


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A link to an online portfolio with examples of past work
  • Experience effectively identifying production issues through use of Splunk or similar log aggregation systems
  • The answer provided by the supercomputer Deep Though when asked the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything
  • Experience deploying to and developing for cloud-based services and architectures such as those offered by Amazon Web Services
  • Third-party integration experience with Facebook, Paypal, Google, Twitter, and Exact Target
