Responsibilities:

  • Build compelling user experiences and interfaces; create both production-ready code and prototypes.
  • Create and maintain templates, user interfaces and interactive content presentations that work seamlessly across device types.
  • Pioneer innovative web interactions and applications for presenting news and information and be able to distinguish between what can be done and what should be done.
  • Work with engineering, news, and product teams on concept development, prototypes, technology innovations and process improvements.
  • Research and identify evolving media, technology and design innovations and opportunities; work with partners across the organization to assess and implement new ideas.
  • Create and maintain shared components and frameworks to be used across development teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with UX designers and other dev teams to propose and evaluate design initiatives and champion exceptional front-end implementation.

Requirements:

  • Expert-level understanding of front-end web technologies (including HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, LESS/Sass).
  • Fluency in the principles of responsive web design and mobile development frameworks.
  • Extensive cross-browser and cross-device development experience.
  • Proficiency with WordPress themes and plugins is desired.
  • Enthusiasm for emerging standards, tools and techniques coupled with a healthy skepticism of unproven technologies.
  • Proficiency in the use of modern product development processes and revision control tools.
  • Passion for building world-class user experiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree; technical background preferred.
