Position: Website Developer III

Where: Seattle

What: Blue Nile is currently seeking a Website Developer III to join the Site Development team. In this position, you will be part of a small team of highly-skilled developers utilizing current web technologies to maintain and enhance the Blue Nile website, including an ongoing project to transform our website to a responsive format to better serve mobile platforms. The Site Development team is also an integral part of our initiatives supporting international expansion. This position focuses on designing and developing the software of the Blue Nile website and integrating with social media. In this position, you will work on a wide variety of projects that are directly connected with an active, growing business. You will apply your strong knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, and jQuery and your knowledge of service oriented architectures, design patterns, and frameworks to enhance the software that supports the website. You will be working with the full technology stack, from the Oracle database through the Java Spring MVC layer to the client. You will work closely with our Website Architecture Team. We follow an Agile SCRUM methodology.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Communicate with multiple business departments within Blue Nile to clarify and define their requests for new features or functionality within our site
• Understand project requirements and put together accurate time estimates
• Use your knowledge of design patterns and frameworks to design the solutions necessary to implement the requested changes
• Work with and mentor other developers on projects making substantial changes to our site
• Develop primarily using Java, JavaScript/jQuery, HTML, and CSS
• Working alongside our creative team, design and implement attractive and rich UI features
• Independently drive projects from beginning to end
• Actively and attentively maintain organization of assigned projects and tasks

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Strong experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript is essential; 5+ years is needed
• Strong experience with JavaScript libraries – JQuery is preferred
• Software development experience; 3+ years working with an object-oriented programming language – Java is preferred
• Strong experience with object-oriented programming, service oriented architectures, MVC design patterns Experience with Spring MVC is preferred
• Knowledge of SQL and Oracle stored procedures is advantageous
• Strong communication skills; you will be working with a variety of business leaders throughout the company
• Strong experience with cross-browser compatibility issues
• Experience providing technical leadership to junior developers
• Experience developing and maintaining public database-driven websites
