Position: Copy Editor
Where: Seattle
What: Zillow is looking for a talented copy editor to manage Zillow’s news syndication service, which includes assigning articles to freelancers and editing and producing content through a distribution system. In addition, this person will assist in other editing duties for the site, including Zillow.com, Zillow Blog, Zillow for Pros Blog, Zillow Mobile and consumer and professional content and newsletters. This is a contract position, with the potential of becoming a full-time position. This job demands a strong attention to detail and will require intensive daily use of Excel spreadsheets and content management systems to organize, edit and produce scheduled sets of content for our news partners.
Responsibilities:
Organize and execute the editorial operation for our news partners
Edit copy for grammar, accuracy, tone and message, while inserting SEO keywords when applicable
Organize assignments via Excel and produce and publish copy using a content management system
Communicate with freelancers on assignments, story ideas
Write blog posts and articles, as necessary
Update content on Zillow.com, Zillow Mobile and Zillow Blog, as necessary
Collaborate with editorial and marketing teams on projects and story ideas
Ensure that all published content meets corporate editorial and brand standards by working with appropriate marketing and legal teams
Requirements:
BA/BS in communications, journalism or equivalent experience
Must have at least 4-5 years editorial experience
Experience in managing projects and people a plus
Must be able to work independently and make sound decisions while balancing news judgment and corporate brand considerations
Knowledge of AP style
Excellent editing and writing skills
Understands how to optimize content for SEO
Strong attention to detail and experience working under deadline
Must have knowledge and experience using Web-based publishing tools
Proficient using Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel
Able to work collaboratively across all teams
Real estate knowledge and experience a plus
