What: The Seattle Times is seeking a Senior Product Manager to manage the planning, creation, development, and overall lifecycle of advertising products and initiatives to build revenue, audience, and market share for The Seattle Times Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads cross functional project teams including direct reports and peers, in the refinement of current products and/or programs as well as business development and implementation of new products and supporting rate programs.
  • Leads the full product development lifecycle: conception, requirements (specifications), planning, design, implementation, and performance reporting.
  • Strategic requirements include growing revenue and market share through new online and print advertising products, or improvements to those that already exist, while ensuring optimal profitability.
  • Manages overall advertising product roadmap and establishes quarterly priorities for product lines and business development initiatives with input and oversight from the Director of Product Management, the Director of New Product Strategy, and the Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Requirements: At least 7 years experience creating, developing, and overseeing product development and performance analysis, including bringing new product from concept to market launch, preferably with a focus on online advertising. Supervisory experience. Experience in working in cross-functional product development team.

  • BA or BS degree in Business (Finance, Accounting, or Economics) or Advertising. Experience with traditional print advertising.
  • Business Analysis: Understands business drivers and can translate them into viable product solutions. Able to interpret market measurements such as site traffic, revenue, marketshare and translate these into tangible product goals. Must be able to see connections that create revenue additions or exposure. Will be making and/or recommending strategies, based on knowledge and experience. Must be able to follow existing guidelines for product analysis when available, and be able to develop new guidelines for product review as necessary. Projects require keeping the big picture in mind while ensuring that numerous details are taken care of. Will participate in long term strategic planning when it involves product line development. Must understand business and marketing in addition to understanding multiple systems of which products are scheduled and reported.
  • Needs Analysis.
  • Technical Skills: Must be highly skilled in Word, Excel, Visio, and Project. Must be able to partner with developers and designers to translate product needs into feasible technical solutions for mid-to-large-scale, complex Web applications. Must possess a working knowledge of Web technologies and applications (PDF, CSS, Flash, video/audio formats, e-commerce processes, content management concepts). Must have a working knowledge of online advertising and performance technologies, including ad serving technology, traffic-monitoring, and related systems.
  • Communication: Must have the ability to build consensus across a diverse organization. Exceptional leadership skills required–ability to influence when necessary and direct when necessary.
