Position: Marketing Director

What: The Marketing Director is a senior level management position reporting to the Managing Director.  The position is responsible for developing and implementing public relations, marketing and advertising strategies to promote the Museum’s identity, exhibitions and to ensure effective internal communications among staff and board.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, track and report department metrics
  • Develop annual marketing plan and budget to drive attendance and positive visibility for the Museum
  • Implement all aspects of the media and marketing plans, including press releases and advertising campaigns
  • Build effective relationships with key local and national media
  • Oversee all Museum branding initiatives
  • Work with other departments to create and ensure consistency of collateral materials for events, membership, education and curatorial departments.
  • Enhance coordination between museum departments to ensure timely and targeted marketing and communication
  • Responsible for accuracy of exhibitions and programs described publicly.
  • Develop partnerships with community entities and arts organizations to advance the Museum’s public profile
  • Develop and oversee all printed and electronic publicity
  • Ensure timely and accurate information on the Museum’s website
  • Supervise and execute all membership mailings and e-messages
  • Conduct necessary focus groups, interview or surveys with stakeholder groups to determine effectiveness of marketing initiatives
  • Build close relationships with printers, graphic designers and press contacts
  • Supervise one or more direct reports

Requirements:

  • A four-year degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of six years in a related position with increasing responsibility including management and supervisory experience
  • Experience with social media
  • Demonstrated results in producing effective marketing, media and public/communication relations materials
  • Experience acting as a spokesperson with media and other constituencies
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills for building effective working relationships at all levels
  • Willingness and ability to work as part of a team
  • The flexibility , energy and sense of humor to operate in a dynamic environment
