What:  The Pike Place Market Foundation (PPMF) works to preserve the diversity and traditions of the Pike Place Market community by raising more than a $1 million annually to support: 1) the operation of services in the Market which benefit downtown Seattle’s nearly 10,000 low-income and senior residents, including the Market’s Clinic, Senior Center, Preschool, and Food Bank. Additionally, funds are raised to support the start-up of new human service programs, low-income housing in the Market neighborhood, and public improvements within the Market historical district; and Market historic preservation projects. The Foundation has 5 staff members and 36 board members.  The Communications & Marketing Specialist we seek will be responsible for the development and day-to-day coordination of marketing, communications and community relations activities for the PPMF. Duties include brand development and awareness, development of communications campaigns and implementation of the campaigns through all communication channels including social media, merchandising, advertising and promotion of special events.

Responsibilities:

1. Develops and implements awareness campaigns and outreach efforts that highlight the mission of the PPMF, the social service programs and heritage of the Pike Place Market. Makes recommendations for future campaigns based on an analysis of results.
2. Promotes the PPMF throughout Downtown Seattle and in other Seattle neighborhoods by representing the PPMF at community events, industry associations or similar gatherings;
3. Develops and maintains PPMF brand standards. Produces and distributes newsletters, monthly e-newsletter, event collateral material, press releases, advertisements and other communications;
4. Coordinates the content and development of social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, mobile giving, and blog. Monitors activity and engagement, and develops recommendations for integrating new tools or platforms.
5. Develops and coordinates trademark and brand merchandising opportunities and maintains relationships with Market vendors and other outlets for distribution, including the PPMF online store.
6. Manages website using WordPress CMS. Keeps images and information on the website current and relevant. Identifies opportunities for evolution of content and user interface. Manages third-party involvement in upgrades or additions to design.
7. Manages Market Heritage exhibits throughout the PPM including updates and maintenance.
8. Produces videos for use at PPMF events and for online distribution.
9. Works with the Event Specialist and PDA Marketing team to promote annual events.
10. Provides board and brand/marketing committee members with information, counsel, tools, and resources that will enable the board to effectively be PPMF brand ambassadors.
11. Other duties as assigned by Executive Director

Work Experience and Qualities:

1. The ideal candidate for this position will have a demonstrated commitment to non-profit organizations and an ability to foster energy, hope, compassion, and good humor in a challenging environment
2. An ability to advocate and negotiate strategically and effectively with a wide range of people in a variety of settings and possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and exercise good judgment and diplomacy.
3. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing and three to five years of experience is preferred.
4. Exceptional writing, communication and public speaking experience are required.
5. Must be able to work independently, and as part of a team, conduct analysis of programs and make recommendations about best practices.
6. Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Constant Contact and WordPress is required. Must also be familiar with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Google analytics and other online/social media tools
7. Demonstrated accomplishments in meeting goals and project management, including experience coordinating volunteers and staffing board committees.
