What:  Girl Scouts of Western Washington is looking for an Interactive Marketing Manager to be responsible for the organization’s online presence, including the strategic management of all web and social media properties. The manager will create digital communications designed to engage and expand our existing community via social media, email campaigns and newsletters, web and blog content, and other interactive marketing collateral.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional writer who can balance a marketing approach with an engaging and personal voice. The ideal candidate will be a storyteller who loves creating compelling, sharable content that drives people to action. He or she should have strong technical and project management skills and an interest in girls’ leadership.

This position will report to the VP of Marketing and collaborate closely with the Public Relations Director, Marketing and Graphics Specialist and Marketing Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

Develop and execute engaging online campaigns that motivate community engagement.
Write, edit, and optimize high-quality, engaging digital content — consistent with the organization’s brand — for distribution via website, blog, email, social media, video, etc.
Proactively research and recommend new features and technologies to enhance interactive communications.

Solicit and manage member-driven content, such as web pages, blog posts, video clips, social media interactions, etc.

Greatly expand Girl Scouts of Western Washington’s social media presence and increase engagement both regionally and through additional vehicles.

Develop and implement strategies to increase website usage. Oversee and think creatively about the website to ensure ease of use and visitor engagement.

Lead and coordinate a team of cross-functional staff who perform the day-to-day execution of social media messaging and website maintenance.

Develop an email strategy and lead implementation of new, segmented email campaigns to engage and communicate with more than 30,000 email subscribers.

Ensure the timely development of email newsletters from start to finish: editorial planning, identifying engaging stories, copy editing, production, and tracking success.

Implement overall blogging strategy to support user engagement. Maintain the Girl Scouts of Western Washington blog. Facilitate and train staff and volunteer bloggers.

Monitor daily online conversation about Girl Scout issues. Participate in the conversation (comments, posts, email, etc.) to engage users and support the organization’s brand.

Monitor online metrics to determine audience demographic trends, preferred content and engagement opportunities. Prepare reports, conduct analyses, present recommendations.
Work with the marketing team to communicate the vision, schedule, overall plan and any potential issues with interactive projects to Girl Scout staff.

Manage relationships and/or serve as primary liaison with IT, vendors and outside consultants for website, mass email and other interactive communications issues.

Secondary

Manage online advertising activities, including Google AdWords and partner calendars.

Manage SEO initiatives, including keyword analysis and page evaluation/improvement.

As needed, film, produce, edit and upload video, audio and photos for online distribution via YouTube, Flickr, Facebook and more.

As part of the marketing team, manage the organization’s brand to ensure consistency.

Additional responsibilities as required, including editing some print materials.

Qualifications: 

• A bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or related field or equivalent education and work experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Three years’ professional experience writing and editing online content.
• Two years’ experience creating and implementing successful new media and digital engagement experiences.
• Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, as well as a keen eye for proofreading and impeccable grammar. Must be able to develop sophisticated yet fun, concise yet persuasive copy to meet the needs of different audiences and communication channels.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and engage volunteers and staff, particularly bloggers or other content producers.
• Demonstrated understanding of emerging online trends and technologies. Ability to quickly learn and troubleshoot new and existing technologies.
• Experience planning, managing and implementing effective social media and email campaigns and a passion for using these tools to engage and build community.
• Knowledge of website usability concepts and techniques.
• A basic knowledge of HTML and/or CSS and be able to code a basic webpage (formatting text, tables, bullet points/numbering, image alignment, indents, video embedding, page anchors, etc.) required.
• Demonstrated experience with content management systems required. Experience with SharePoint highly desired.
• Experience with database management and list segmentation preferred.
• Experience analyzing and reporting on campaign-related data to improve results.
• Familiarity with SEO and online advertising best practices.
• Familiarity with filming, editing and producing online video content. YouTube proficiency required; Final Cut Pro experience a plus.
• Experience ensuring consistent and effective portrayal of the organization’s brand and identity. Strong sense of professionalism and social media etiquette in order to appropriately represent the brand.
• Excellent design sense, particularly an understanding of formatting for the web.
• Basic Photoshop knowledge, including how to resize and optimize graphics for the web and create graphics for special projects and emails required.
• A demonstrated initiative and ability to independently oversee and manage projects from conception to completion.
• Ability to prioritize and manage competing projects and deadlines. Proactively identify, communicate and collaborate to solve problems.
• Commitment to team collaboration and communication. Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the ability to work cooperatively.
• Experience at a non-profit organization preferred.
• Maintain membership in Girl Scouts of the United States of America
