Position:  Director of Editorial

What: This position develops and maintains the Eddie Bauer voice; responsible for articulating the Eddie Bauer brand voice across all channels and concepts through engaged, brand relevant storytelling. In treatments where the primary function is to sell the brand or its products, but also in the use of product names, taglines, positioning statements and any other means by which the brand is communicated externally. 

Core Accountabilities:
• From concept to execution, develop Eddie Bauer relevant stories for each season.
• Tell great stories that translate our brand and products into positive customer response and sales.
• Develop selling propositions and seasonally inspired themes that are carried out consistently through channels.
• Write or collaborate on the writing of the most visible in-house brand communications: catalog covers, 2/3s and headlines; store windows (to ensure “one brand, one voice” clarity); and ecommerce.
• Provide SMT with potential product stories, including those that draw from the brand heritage, in order to create possible inspiration for product development.
• Strengthen the brand clarity through the development of copy that is historically based and currently appropriate.
• Write and, as needed, periodically update a brand voice guide outlining the mission, strategy and key style attributes of the Eddie Bauer brand voice.
• Establish and oversee the implementation of clear naming conventions to help ensure that product-development, marketing, merchandising and creative strategies all work collaboratively in a disciplined manner toward the single, shared goal of driving sales that build a robust brand identity, and also to protect the corporation’s intellectual property in the form of trademarks.
• Provide leadership support and mentoring to Copy Team.
• Lead Copy team in creating a stimulating, supportive, collaborative work environment that encourages team to continually raise the level of excellence in creative execution.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:
• Highly proficient in computer-based copy production including word-processing and page-layout software, especially Quark XPress

Education/Experience Required:
• 10 years experience in copywriting and editing, emphasis in advertising mailed-media preferred
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor in a collaborative, high-performance environment
• 5 years minimum experience managing a staff of writers, preferably in advertising mailed-media
• College degree in Advertising, English, Journalism, Communications or Publishing or a comparable level of experience in one or more of these areas
