Position: Public Relations Manager

What:  The Public Relations Manager is responsible for leading the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) and the Metropolitan Improvement District (MID) publications, brochures, media relations and electronic communications.

Responsibilities:

 Identify stories, conduct interviews, select photos, write stories and oversee layout, printing and distribution for both DSA and MID newsletters.
 Supervise Web Specialist, including setting of annual performance standards and conduction performance reviews; as well as managing website content priorities and Web Specialist work flow.
 Identify topics, contribute content, edit and publicize DowtownSeattle.com, LetsTalkDowntown blog and DSA’s social media sites.
 Provide media relations support; including distribution list maintenance and news release writing for DSA and MID initiatives.
 Write, edit and oversee design of DSA and MID Annual Reports, DSA State of Downtown Economic Report and other publications and brochures as necessary.
 Monitor, develop responses and track issues for “Contact Us” correspondence.
 Oversee the monitoring and tracking of DSA, MID and Commute Seattle news coverage, developing monthly reports.
 Manage communications vendor relationships including news clipping services, public relations agencies, graphic designers and photographers.
 Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

 Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism or public relations.
 Minimum of 3 years of related work experience, including media relations.
 Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on newswriting and editing.
 Proficient with AP style.
 Broad working knowledge of print, broadcast and electronic communications channels including websites, blogs and social media.
 Self-motivated and energetic with a good sense of humor.
 Strong interpersonal skills and open communications style.
 Comfortable working in a collaborative environment, and ability to work well with groups, colleagues and volunteers at all levels of the organization.
 Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and daily deadlines.
 Ability to research, analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources, grasp and simplify complex topics.
 Proficient with Microsoft Work, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop; basic web maintenance tools, including HTML is a plus.
 Basic photography experience is preferred.
 Knowledge of Downtown Seattle is preferred.
