Environment & Sustainability Series: The Once — and Future? — Promise of Energy Innovation – CityClub

July 22, 2011 @ 12:15 pm - 1:30 pm

$12 – $30

Energy innovation has been hailed as the next frontier for the American economy and as critical for the future of both our environment and national security. Along with an increase in traditional sources of renewable energy like wind and solar, innovative business leaders around our region are making power from dairy waste and municipal solid waste, focusing on making our buildings and appliances more efficient and creating new energy opportunities.

We have also faced repeated challenges with energy crises, calamities at mines, oil rigs, and nuclear facilities, and weather extremes increasingly traceable to climate change. Yet a renewed energy system seems perpetually stuck in the future tense. How can this change? How are industry players, other businesses, consumers, and different levels of government playing a part? Join our panel of experts with your own questions as we imagine an attainable energy future.

Featuring:

  • Councilmember Hilary Franz, Bainbridge Island City Council
  • Stan Gent, President/CEO, Seattle Steam
  • Andy Wappler, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Puget Sound Energy

Moderator: David Roberts, Staff Writer, Grist
