Census Data Skills Workshops at Kent Regional Library

January 24, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Want to learn how you can use data to help your company, organization, and/or community? Do you get asked to “show the data” but you’re not sure how to or where to even start? Want to learn from tech industry experts?

Washington Technology Industry Association is partnering with Census 2020, Seattle Public Library, King County Library System, and Lake Washington Institute of Technology to hold free data analysis and visualization skills workshops.

In these workshops we will familairize you with Census 2020, teach you how to access and interpret Census Bureau data for your own use, cover graph and chart-making with Excel, and finally we will teach you how to take this data and use it to tell a compelling story using Tableau Public.

Check out the dates and times for workshops offered at Kent Regional Library below:

Workshop 1 | Data Interpretation | 1/24/20 4-6 pm

This intro-level workshop is for those who want to understand the basics of statistical research and how it is relevant to their work. Do you want to learn basic data skills, how to conduct market research, and/or access relevant data? Then this workshop is for you!

Workshop 2 | Basic Data Visualization | 1/31/20 4-6 pm
This workshop is designed for those who have a basic understanding of data gathering and interpretation but would like to take it to the next level. In this workshop, you will learn how to create charts and maps using data sets.

Workshop 3 | Data Interpretation | 2/7/20 4-6 pm
This is the most advanced workshop in the series. Ideal attendees for this event either have some experience using Tableau Public or with using data to support projects. In this class you will learn how to create interactive data visualizations using Tableau Public as well as how to tell a compelling story through data and the visual you will create.

All workshops are open to the public with a special focus on community organizers, nonprofit communicators, and small business owners, along with college students and advanced high school students interested in business, technology, social work, public health, or social sciences.
