Vulcan exists to tackle some of the world’s toughest problems and to make a lasting impact. The Sr. Director, Marketing, is a key role, as we engage with stakeholders and supporters locally and around the world.

This role reports to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications, and will manage the brand identity, and serve as the lead strategist for multiple channel marketing campaigns, digital content, and all owned media content strategy and development, to broaden visibility of Vulcan and the Paul G. Allen network externally.

The ideal person for this position will be a highly effective marketing professional, who brings proven skills in strategy development and measurement across multiple channels, particularly social and digital. This individual must be a great communicator and inspiring team leader who is equally excited about hands-on involvement with key projects, as well as working with the team and vendors to develop and implement marketing campaigns.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and champion the brand positioning strategy of Vulcan and Paul G. Allen in collaboration with the leadership team to best reach our target audiences locally and around the world.
  • Collaborate vigorously and seamlessly with the broader organization to leverage resources, expertise, and scale to achieve non-traditional results across Vulcan and the Paul G. Allen network brand building and marketing initiatives.
  • Identify big ideas to create buzz around key projects allowing stakeholders and supporters to engage.
  • Develop and manage strategic marketing plan focused on projects and businesses that form the Paul G. Allen network.
  • Establish key performance indicators for all campaigns to measure success.
  • Direct all brand management efforts and graphic design planning and implementation needs, including the development and production of naming, design, identity system, signage, collateral and other communication programs and materials across various corporate and private projects and initiatives.
  • Manage a variety of qualitative and quantitative ‘market research’ programs to develop rock-solid business cases, inform the business, and other creative projects, including demographic, lifestyle segmentation and consumer positioning research both domestically and internationally.
  • Maintain and grow Vulcan and Paul G. Allen’s social media presence and impact.
  • Own marketing for Vulcan technology products, pre and post release.
  • Lead, manage and inspire the Marketing team, by both day to day communication & direction, and long-term professional development.
  • Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and fulfillment of commitments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required      

  • A minimum of seven-plus years in account management or in-house marketing responsibilities.  Interactive experience required.
  • Ability to prepare and execute innovative marketing campaigns with clear objectives across multiple channels.
  • Ability to operate like a start-up – moving fast, learning, and adapting along the way.
  • Willingness to roll up sleeves and solve a variety of problems.
  • Creative skills and the ability to judge creative designs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven success as a leader, with ability to manage a team.
  • This person must be a self-starter.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Directly manages a team of five-plus employees, including the Brand & Design Director and the Digital Media Sr. Manager.
  • Serves in a change management capacity to help others transition from the current state to the desired state by addressing and reducing distractions that may prevent employees from accepting change.
  • Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Computer Skills:

  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Education/Experience/Certifications:

  • MBA highly desirable.
  • BA or BS from accredited institution and at minimum 10 years relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
