What: The Space Needle is currently hiring a Public Relations Manager. The Public Relations Manager is responsible for planning and directing public relations programs that are designed to create and build a strong and favorable public image ensuring it builds and maintains its leadership as an icon on the local, national, and international stage and ultimately holds true to its brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Space Needle’s publicity strategy using a combination of traditional public relations and digital communications.
  • Creative and execute PR initiatives.
  • Develop, oversee, and implement public relations strategies that include: defined benchmark goals, measured and analyzed results, and applied result tactics for continual improvement. Plans must be in collaboration with overall marketing communication strategies and goals to further the Space Needle brand reputation and mission.
  • Research and write press materials and ensure they reach the intended audiences — local, regional, national and internationally.
  • Seek opportunities for local, regional, national, and international publicity by pitching stories and distributing materials to specific media, niche audiences, industry publications, etc.
  • Responsible for organizing press conferences, on-site media events, and press tours, etc.
  • Identify main client groups and audiences and determine the best way to communicate publicity information to them.
  • Manage special event opportunities in order to gain positive public attention through earned media channels.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with people outside the organization to proactively promote and represent the organization to customers, the public, city, and other external sources.
  • Create and manage relationships through multiple relevant media channels including entertainment, tourism, business, and community.

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years PR Management experience in tourism, hospitality, attraction, or entertainment industry with a track record of successful PR achievements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.
  • Experience pitching print and broadcast news media.
  • Familiarity with online news outlets, social networks, and other e-technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Strong local and national media contacts.
  • Ability to think outside of the box and react quickly.
  • Strong verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Broad and trusted relationships with Seattle-based tourism channel partners and arts partners.
  • Leadership and team performance skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and off-site as required.
