The Director Planning & Operations will partner with the Chief Communications Officer and the Communications leadership team to provide leadership and oversight of foundation wide communications goals and strategic planning.

The Foundation Communications team advances the foundation’s goals by protecting and extending its reputation. We are responsible for unifying and strengthening the foundation’s voice, raising public awareness of the issues we work on, and building the public will to address those problems.

Responsibilities: The Director Planning & Operations will partner with the Chief Communications Officer and the Communications leadership team to provide leadership and oversight of foundation wide communications goals and strategic planning.

Strategy / Program Development: Responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements, policies, and procedures that position Communications for success. This includes collaborating with leaders to plan, implement, and continually evaluate operational practices.Actively support the development and implementation of ongoing Operations Leadership group in setting strategic priorities by partnering with support functions including: finance, legal, and human resources. Lead the strategic planning and refresh process for the Communications leadership team, including reporting and tracking metrics. Manage budget process and prepare annual operating budget and process for Chief Communications Officer..Partner with the CCO on the annual goal setting process.Advise Communications Leaders on operational issues such as budget, HR, etc.<br>.Develop and lead the resource allocation process to ensure programmatic strategies are resourced, while also allowing flex where needed. Lead cross communications special projects on behalf of the CCO.

Execution: Work in partnership with Communications leaders and managers to ensure operational efficiency and management effectiveness. Participate in cross-foundation working groups on priority projects, representing Communication’s interests. Coordinate with central functions (HR, IT, Legal, Finance) to implement cross foundation projects on behalf of Communications.

Leadership: Lead a team of 1-4 employees. Leads cross functional teams to coordinate and consolidate information from various strategies. Provides input and recommendations, as appropriate. Serve as a primary point of contact on behalf of the Communications org and CCO on foundation operational initiatives and projects. Manage a budget.

Requirements: 10 years of experience in roles that requires multi-disciplinary strategic thinking and leadership. Evidence of problem solving and is grounded in every aspect of operations. Demonstrated successful experience in managing an organization or participating in a critical management role for an organization is desired. Diplomacy is essential. Able to collaborate as a team player and interact successfully with all levels of staff.  Strong analytics skills required. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to extract and analyze appropriate data and communicate accordingly. Excellent organizational and project management skills. Must be adept at creating on-going operational efficiencies. Excellent leadership and management skills: people, projects, processes, and prioritization.  Outstanding ability to manage staff through mentoring, developing work plans, and supporting professional development</br> Bachelors degree; MBA preferred. Ability to stay calm and poised under pressure and remain focused in a rapidly changing environment. Commitment to the foundation’s core values and mission.

Reports to: Reports to the Chief Communications Officer and is a member of the Communications leadership team.
