The year 2000 could be a record-breaker
for Seattle Internet IPOs. By the end of January, seven companies
(see below) had registered to sell shares to the public.
Typically, only the best clients
of the IPO underwriters get access to the IPO shares at the IPO
price. The rest of us have to wait until after the shares are
out of the starting gate (begin trading). Hence the name of this
