Love the Man in the Uniform 6.12.2000 As a former military intelligence/data analyst recently turned civilian, I am surprised by how hard it is to find meaningful, challenging work in this great Emerald City of ours, a place and a way of life I have defended for the last 11 years. Is it that my background is that much different from yours? Sure, my experience may be difficult to translate. But isn't challenging work the same for everyone? I've enjoyed my rites of passage. I've dealt with challenging and stressful work situations that would intimidate many, if not most, of what I used to refer to as "civilians." If employers knew the types of things are expected on a daily basis from some people in our armed services, they would be beating down our doors begging for our services. This is not necessarily meant to drum up any prospects for me (I have been increasingly successful as of late). It is only a plea to get new companies just starting out (particularly pre-IPO) to take a good look at someone with a serious military background. We know how to work hard, be responsible and get the job done--at any cost. All of this on a teacher's salary! Now if that isn't commitment, then I don't know what is. Please feel free to email me your comments and/or job openings: jkinard@home.com. |
