Marchex Adds Seven Publishers to Contextual Ad Roster

February 21st, 2007 by seattle24x7

Marchex, along with subsidiary IndustryBrains, today announced that since January 1st of this year, it has signed contextual ad agreements with seven publishers across a range of verticals including Business & Finance, Information Technology, and Home & Living. The Marchex deals will include publishers InvestorVillage.com, Homes and Land, CIO Index.com, and WorldGolf.com among others.

With the agreements in place, Marchex will provide ad solutions to certain sections of the publishers’ websites, and to the websites’ targeted newsletters and blogs. Advertisers, in turn, will be able to place their product/service listings directly on premium and specific websites, and/or sections of pages within a website.

Marchex already has relationships with more than 100 vertically-focused online publishers, and the seven new publishers add to the brand-name roster. BusinessWeek Online, The Motley Fool, and the Ziff Davis’s online properties are only a few of the notable publishing brands Marchex currently deals with.

In a press statement, IndustryBrains CEO Eric Matlick said, “As the company that created the site-specific approach to contextual advertising more than five years ago, we are very pleased to build upon our leadership position by adding seven high quality online publishers to our platform since the beginning of the year. As 2007 progresses, we look forward to further increasing our market share while helping all of our new partners more fully realize the value of their online brands, and providing advertisers with direct access to many additional highly targeted audiences.”

InfoSpace moves Fast to Develop Mobile Search

February 13th, 2007 by seattle24x7

Bellevue-based InfoSpace Inc. is vying to become the Google or Yahoo of mobile-search technology by becoming fast friends with Fast, of Oslo, Norway.

The new relationship will put the companies to work jointly developing search technology for use by cellular providers according to Brendan Benzing, InfoSpace’s vice president of mobile search. Such joint technology would be sold directly to cellular providers for use by customers, who won’t see either company’s name on their screens, Benzing said.Only about 10 percent of U.S. cell phone owners are using the Web browsers built into their handsets, according to JupiterResearch. And of those, “very few people are doing search on their phones,” Benzing acknowledged. The partnership will have a “very, very small impact” on InfoSpace’s revenue this year and next, he said.

Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, Hutchison Whampoa, Telecom Italia, Telfonica and Vodafone, as well as American provider Cingular, may develop their own search or announce a deal with an existing search provider, said Tim Bajarin, president of research firm Creative Strategies Inc.

StumbleUpon Video Coming to the Wii

February 13th, 2007 by seattle24x7

As a video game town (Nintendo, Microsoft, Real, EA), and a search engine capitol, you’d think we would’ve connected the two fields a bit sooner.  But in a first step of many more to come,  StumbleUpon Video will soon be available on the TV via a customized version made for the Nintendo Wii.

StumbleUpon is a cross between personalization and serendipity that  takes you to unexpected web pages that fit your interests as defined by your self categorization and your subsequent thumbs up or thumbs evaluation.  The company is celebrating its 5th anniversary tonight and is also releasing version 3.0 of its browser toolbar, which will integrate video along with standard web page stumbling.
Sending video from the web to the TV is something that no shortage of companies are doing or are seeking to do. More than 6 million Wii consoles have been sold since they went on sale last Fall.

Link Intelligence Data from Kirkland’s Webmaster Central

February 12th, 2007 by seattle24x7

A new Google Webmaster Central tool has been introduced this week that lets site owners view a much larger sample of inbound links to pages on their site. Unlike the Google “link: operator,” this data is much more comprehensive and can be classified, filtered, and even downloaded.

All you need to do is verify site ownership via the Google Webmaster Central system to see this information.

While Google does limit the total amount of data available for each type of link, the increase in data is substantial. As an example, Danny Sullivan notes that with the old tool, Google reports ~3,000 links into his new Website whereas the new tool reports 57,000. Thatís quite a leap!
